 ATSUKO WAKAI
The Guiness Book of World Records has registered Atsuko Wakaifs 4successive World Karate Championship titles, a string of gold medals that started with the 14th WKF Championships in Brazil in 1998 and culminated with the 17th WKF Championships in Mexico in 2004. This remarkable journey began when Atsuko was 6 years old after she started Goju-ryu karate training for rehabilitation of a severe injury she received in an automobile accident. She became captivated with karate training and a lifelong journey began. @Atsuko Wakai has been called a glate bloomerh, as she didnft become a National team member until after college graduation. Her first victory in international competition was the 2nd Ladies International Karate Cup in Tokyo in 1997,and her string of four consecutive WKF titles followed soon after. @Atsuko won 3 successive the World Games titles (f97,f01 and f05). After winning the record setting 3rd title in Germany in 2005, she retired from active competition. A 5th degree black belt certified by the JKF (Japan Karatedo Federation),Atsuko has taken an active role in instruction and promotion of karate to people of all levels and age groups. She is a Japan Health Promotion Fitness Foundation certified trainer and an authorized sports instructor of the Japan Sports Association. She is an advocate of karate, appearing on TV, radio,lectures and public events. She has established an approach to karate gEncouraging Karateh to emphasize the positive mental and physical benefits of karate, especially targeting children, women and seniors. In 2007, Atsuko Wakai became the director (head coach) of the Seino Transportation Co., Ltd. Karate team.
